not a good location for the water next to an electrical outlet. At a minimum this outet needs to be downstream from a GFC receptacle (GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interupter) or the entire circuit should be on a GFCI circuit breaker (in the panel box).
Most likely in a newer home all outlets in a kitchen are on a GFCI, but just to be safe, buy a GFCI tester (about $10 at a local home improvements store) and plug it into each outlet. Lights will come on and they correspond to a key on the tester. It should be easy to see that this is a GFCI outlet.
GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interupter.
